Soccer p6 Compete in a team sport
Soccer is a very fun sport because you will always get a challenge.I play every Saturday morning at 9.00am. I play in tenth grade soccer and I play for Eastlake junior soccer club.
we play a different team each week from around Rotorua. We have not lost a game this season. On Saturday the 24 of August we won 9 nil over Westbrook. On Saturday the 31 of August we played Ngongotaha and won 11- 4 and our biggest win we played st Mary’s School we won 23 -1.
My strength in soccer is defense, my main position is right back. Area for improvement is, I would like to go up the field, or push up so I can score goals and I would like to improve my technique.
We have played in two tournaments this season. One was Papamoa and one was in Waipuna, Tauranga. We have one coming up in Auckland which is a national tournament . It is in the middle weekend in the school holiday
Our practices are on a Thursday with our coach Mark Chapman at Neil Hunt park. We do passes, one, two's, practice shooting, first touch and communications.
We have finished the season except for a round robin tournament next week and a few games with Taupo.
I would recommend playing a team sport because it is challenging, making new friends and it is fitness as well as being fun. I love soccer as my team sport because soccer is my favorite sport. I like that you play with your friends and family or at school.
Compete in two different individual sporting events. P4
RATS duathlon
I participated in the RATS duathlon in February. I ran, biked and ran again. We stared running a few laps of the field and then we biked in the forest on Tahi track. Once we finished the biking we did two more running laps. When We finished we got a free sausage and a certificate. I really enjoyed it, I liked the challenge and spending time with my friends and cousins.
I needed to make sure I had a bike, helmet and gloves to help protect me. Lynmore one the trophy for the most kids entered. This is was the second time I had competed in the RATS. I would like to do it again next year. I did a few bike rides before the day so I was fit and ready on the day.
Mini marathon
I ran the mini marathon in May. One month before the race we got a little card to tick off. Each day I had to run one km which was from our house to Lynmore ave and back again. Over the month it added up to 40kms.
On the day Mum dropped me down to the Energy Events Centre so I could meet up with my school group. We waited for our turn to run in our age groups, I’m ten so I ran with the ten year olds. I was nervous because it was 2.5 Kms. I ran over the finish line, I saw my Dad and everybody cheered me on. It felt good. We got chewy lol lies. Granny took me home after it was finished.
I would recommend both these two events because they are both fun, it’s fitness and you are given goodies afterwards. I like to challenge myself.
Boxing P2 Improving fitness
I started boxing in term Three for 10 weeks at Rotovagas boxing. I had to get up at 6.30am on Mondays and Wednesday so I would get there in time. It started at 7.30am and ended at 8.30am. It was a challenge but I survived.
In boxing class we did hard work, fitness, push ups, sit ups, burpees, planks. We had to hold planks for one and a half minutes to two minutes. We also did a lot of shuttle runs which were quite hard. I got so tired. Sometimes my muscles in my tummy hurt.
I won the award for boxing on the second of September for determination. My coaches name was Coach Tai, after boxing each day he drove us back to school in the boxing Van. Sometimes Mrs G came and did boxing with us .
I would recommend boxing as a good way to keep fit, its a challenge and I liked the coaches.
Design your own challenge school ski week
I went on school ski week with Mrs Fisher on Sunday the 18th of August til Wednesday the 21st of August. My mum , brother Michael and sister Lucy all came with me.
On the Sunday we skied as a family, it was a Bluebird day. The West was not open so we skied the Valley , Waterfall and the Rock garden. In the afternoon we had to take our things from the car all the way up the hill to the Rotorua ski and tramping lodge. It was a challenge because we had to carry a very heavy pack and our skis, boots and poles. Also our stuff for three days.
We stayed in the hut. It was awesome. I shared a room with Remi, Max and Remi’s dad Flo. It was my third school ski week. Mrs Fisher had rules in the hut. We had to do jobs, mine was the evening dishes at dinner time.
On the Monday we skied heaps it was a good day. We went out west and skied home run all the way back to the hut. On the Tuesday it was overcast. We had races in the gut on the Knoll ridge. It was dangerous and we didn’t ski back to the hut we took the gondola back down.
We left on Wednesday to go home, it was snowing really hard and we slide down the hill to the cars instead of taking the track. When we put all our gear in the car it snowed on the inside and heaps of our things got wet. We all drove down the mountain together so we were safe.
I really recommend school ski week, it’s fun, you get to meet new friends that you bond with and you ski with your family and the food is yum. The custodians are kind and good cooks. Mrs Fisher is awesome.
School ski week was awesome, I loved it.
